JOB INTERVIEW TIPS
• Know the interviewer’s name, title and phone number, in case you need to call and reschedule.
• Know the company’s address and directions for getting there. If possible, try and drop by the day before to know the route.
• Do a research of the company: goals, products, target, history, Board of Directors. This will give the interview an impression that you have a strong interest in the company
• Find out what qualifications the company seeks, then prove that you have them by citing appropriate accomplishments and episodes from your experience
• Take with you:
 A pen and some paper to take notes
 Several copies of your CV/resume as you may be interviewed by a team of people; do not make them share one
 Your list of references
 The list of questions you want to ask the interviewers.
 The list of points (usually your qualifications) you want to bring up
 Notes for the application form
• Do not:
 Chew gum
 Smoke or drink alcohol even if the interviewer offers you
 Cross your arms or legs
 Put your feet on the desk, even if the interviewer does.
 Lay your belongings (coat, bag, pens etc) on the interviewer’s table
 Fidget with your hair, clothes, accessories
 Be nervous (Always take a deep breath inconspicuously)
 Sit down until asked to do but you may ask the interviewer if you should take your sit in case you were kept standing for long time
 Ask for refreshments unless you are coughing and need a glass of water to compose yourself
 Interrupt the interviewer

• Do:
 Walk into the interview room briskly with upright posture to give a confident first impression.
 Have a firm handshake with your interviewer
 Listen attentively, smile, nod your head and lean forward to show that you are listening
 Stay enthusiastic, even if the interviewer(s) become hostile
 Stand and sit straight, don’t slough
 Stay focused on what the interviewer thinks is important
 Maintain eye contact throughout the conversation

• Immediately after the interview, write down whatever information that might useful later before you forget e.g. the questions that confounded you, new information that you’ve learnt about the company e.t.c.
• Always consider writing thank you notes.
